What can you expect when taking lessons at The Piano Nook? Review our policies below to see how we operate.
General Expectations
- Students must arrive promptly at the beginning of their lesson time.
- Students must be clean and fully clothed (including shoes).
- Students must bring all books and other materials currently being used in lessons.
- A parent/guardian must be present for each lesson. They may attend in the lesson room or sit in the adjacent room. Siblings are welcome as long as they are not disruptive.
- Students are required to use the provided hand sanitizer before lessons to help keep the piano germ-free for everyone.
- Bills must be paid before the first lesson of each month.
Disclaimers
- The Piano Nook reserves the right to refuse service to prospective or current students.
- The studio and property are equipped with security cameras.
- Damage to property will result in the termination of lessons as well as a bill to cover the cost of the damages.
- There will be children present in the house during lessons. While there may be brief disruptions during the scheduled lesson time, each student will receive attentive instruction for the full length of each lesson.
- Lessons may be recorded for private use only. No recordings (video or audio) may be uploaded to social media or otherwise shared publicly without prior consultation with the teacher. The teacher will always get consent before recording or photographing students, and before sharing any content that includes them.
Payments
- - Payments will be processed online through Square.
- - Payment is required before the first lesson of each month.
- - Lessons are not provided to students with outstanding bills.
Late Arrivals
- - The Piano Nook only guarantees instruction for the scheduled lesson time.
- While abnormal needs (emergencies, etc.) will be taken into account, additional time past the scheduled lesson time is not guaranteed for late arrivals.
- At 15 minutes late, the entire lesson is automatically forfeited and non-refundable.
Cancellations
- Cancellations made 3 days in advance will be replaced with a make-up lesson as the teacher's calendar allows.
- Last-minute cancellations are non-refundable.
- - Contact the teacher if emergencies prevent attendance.
Studio Nights
- Once a month, the studio will gather as a group for further development of performance skills, music history knowledge, hymn playing, improvisation, sight reading, reading off a lead sheet, accompanying.
- Students will be expected to occasionally share repertoire (discussed with teacher beforehand) and constructively comment on each other's performances (discussion led by the teacher).
- No students will be able to come over 15 minutes early or stay over 15 minutes late.
- Students must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
- - Studio nights are optional but highly recommended for enhancing the private lesson experience.
Yearly Recital
- Recital will take place once a year in the spring semester (date TBD).
- Participation is required.
- Students are expected to perform by memory.
- Location TBD
